A few weeks ago, Fit for Broadway was featured on a panel at BroadwayCon about building projects or companies within the Broadway community. A few questions into the presentation, we were asked “What is the greatest joy you’ve experienced throughout your journey of creating X?” Our collective answer was “The community” and my extended answer, had time allowed, would have been a laundry list of every meaningful friendship I have born from Broadway.
Reflecting on almost five years of Fit for Broadway, the friendships cultivated through Broadway are without a doubt the most meaningful, joyful and supportive relationships we’ve discovered. If I were to take inventory of my best friendships, I would realize our commonality has and remains Broadway and most of my friendships actually started with a dialogue about Broadway.
For example, my best friend, Justin and I originally bonded over our shared love of Phantom of the Opera which is our shared gateway musical (you know, the 1st musical… the no turning back moment into the wonderful world of Broadway). Similarly, another one of my best friends, Steven and I, met at a random, Broadway-unrelated, event and gravitated towards each other unknowingly to find our shared love of musical theatre, namely shows that celebrate inclusivity. Broadway is the unbreakable link, the glue of my friendships, the puzzle piece that helps us fit, and so on.
This month, we are partnering with Goldstar to celebrate Broadway Born Friendships (FFBBBF’s for short). If you’re new to Goldstar, they offer great deals to thousands of shows and make snagging tickets to your favorite shows easy. Goldstar is offering $10 OFF any ticket (including Broadway) on their site or free app with the promo code: FITFORBROADWAY. The promo code is valid through February as well and to kick things off, we are sharing a few of the shows that gave us our friendships with the friends we love.
Last week, Justin and I visited Phantom of the Opera, and Steven and I visited Kinky Boots. Last night we visited The Prom and on January 27th we’re headed to see Chicago the Musical. Join us for a night at Broadway! Be sure to hashtag #FFBxGOLDSTAR when you use your promo code.
